Parasocial Relationships
At the peak of the tower’s form are two sides—celebrities and their fans— visible to one another yet irreconcilably distant. The ascent is a gamified ordeal, where fans invest time, money, and effort under the illusion that reaching the peak grants proximity to those they idolize. But upon arrival, the revelation is stark—the only reward is a voyeuristic gaze across the void separating the two towers.
In fact, the visitor is physically even further from their obsession, as the towers gradually cant away from eachother.
This spatialized disappointment mirrors the digital age’s promise of access, where engagement is mistaken for intimacy, and the illusion of closeness sustains an economy of attention that thrives on unfulfilled desire.
